The previous chats have been fun and exploratory, but it seems like it's time for some proper communications around this idea. Below you can find everything related to the concept and the decision-making process. Please respond in @lobsters_chat.

Why have NFTs, is this a scam?
"Yes, of course!" That's what loomdart said in March. When it comes to communities, a few groups have tried to make utility coins for their DAOs and pretend to be voting in 2019-2020... which went horribly wrong. That is because trying to insert an economic underlying in communities usually goes wrong and kills the vibes. Pro-bono can go much further in communities than paid things, and we have been right with this trend.
Then NFTs came around. At their core, they do not have have an economic underlying. Yes, they get traded, PnDed, and so on. But that doesn't remove their actual purpose: just to enjoy the art. That's it. They can be worth 100 or 0 ETH. There will be no difference to their emotional value or the community itself, as long as there was never any underlying promise for appreciation, and it was all done for fun.
At first, I was like "meh, sounds like an excuse to PnD". And then I discovered private swimming pools, expensive cars, and Ukranian girls! So I don't think so anymore...
NFTs can be fun if done in the fun way. And everybody wants it.
For real, the only person against jpegs was Andre. There was literally nobody else from thousands of people who didn't want this art thingy. I myself was also skeptical, but when everyone said "ye lfg" the goal was just to evaluate "will this backfire?".
keep the community in tact by not killing vibes with economic promises, aka don't introduce any economic speculative inherent feature or promises.
just do it for the art and then cuteness of collectors.
LobsterDAO is just a fun community chat which has grown thanks to its contributors. As such, out of respect, it was never abused for shilling and was kept mostly impartial. If a few members come forward veto'ing this idea, we will just kill it. Please don't see the chat and the community as something proprietary. Everybody matters!
LobsterDAO NFT 3: propuesta pública - PFP
Cool contemporary art by Klibansky, check some of their works and statues. Their works go from a few dozen K for statues to 500K+ on real-world auctions. There is a lot of information in google you can find. TBD on the styles!
2. There will be no sale. Pricing even 5K pieces at 0.1 still doesn't collect that much considering how much community value there is in LobsterDAO (I would seriously not sell the chat for even $500K). Also, a sale probably brings quite some regulatory hurdle. And even if not, we just don't want to have the brand / community reputation be tainted with some sale. So, no money-grabbing.
3. The collection will be a fun number of pieces like 5555 or 8888. It will have a finite number with the majority of the supply claimable on day 0.
4. The distribution proposed is as follows:
10% reserved in the DAO multisig for grants, commemorations, etc;
10% to communities of crypto punks, bored ape yacht club, parallel, and a few others. So we get the outside cool peeps. Claimable if they hold at X time or if they held the longest (for example, do minimum holding time of X months).
10% to the artist;
10% collectively to the devs who help get this live;
10% or so to NFT Avenue;
50% to lobsters people based on activity-quality (banteg has numbers). In that case, banteg will likely have about 5% of the total supply, ivan will have about 10%, and a few admins in the proportions of 2-5%. That's all in the bot.
5. No future promises or roadmap. This won't have some hidden easter eggs. It won't have roadmap. There is nothing to be gained here, there is no team, nobody will work on making this thing be live. It will just be art, literally. Released and shipped, gtfo.
6. No talks allowed after 1 week in the chat. One week following the launch, lobster jpegs will get their own Discord, community-managed, and all mentions of the project will die then in the chat. The idea is to not taint current community & flow of tech discussions. A one-week grace period is okay, but then it all must be gone. This way the chat won't be diluted or get overflown by people.
7. There should be a multisig controlled by either admins or community-elected somehow. This way, if other projects would want to commemorate the lobsters family, they can either sent something to that, or give that multisig the signing rights to some other project (remember 0xchad deployment?). Basically, to make sure the idea has rails to evolve further if somebody would want to make something out of it. But for the practicalities, multisig shouldn't be bothered with too many things.
8. There should be a snapshot page set up to vote-signal with NFTs. The quorum can be set up for decisions and delegation, in case somebody would want that (gitcoin grants in the future?) The voting weights will just depend on the sheer number of NFTs you have. This might be a fun mechanic for interesting / important proposals as the floor-meme can kick in for those are degenerates. Imagine sweeping to influence the vote.
9. There should be 5-10% royalties on these bad boys. 30% goes to the artist and the other 70% go to the DAO. And then DAO can decide to do with them whatever they want. If it turns out nobody is buying-selling these thingies, then fuck it. Who cares? There shouldn't be any underlying economic activity, this is just to give it rails to capitalize on the potential, that's all. But if it goes well, it can be a cool feature. This is a way for a legitimate community to c̶a̶p̶i̶t̶a̶l̶i̶z̶e̶ ̶o̶n̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶h̶y̶p̶e̶ ̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶u̶s̶e̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶c̶a̶s̶h̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶g̶e̶t̶ ̶g̶i̶r̶l̶f̶r̶i̶e̶n̶d̶s̶ ̶f̶o̶r̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶i̶r̶ ̶g̶i̶r̶l̶f̶r̶i̶e̶n̶d̶s̶ do something with that ape tax for the good.
10. There will be rare traits to make them different, but not in a trivial way.
11. The allocation of NFTs will be fully at random! The DAO won't know which one it is getting. The community won't. The artist won't. Perhaps 1-2 pieces we will distribute to admins, but ideally is to have it all like a loot box. FUN!
X. The idea of other NFT artists coming in to draw like 5-10 pieces sounds cool, but we are afraid of it destroying the collection brand. Everybody has their own style and it would just feel too weird perhaps, or no? What could you advise?
Tasks: how to engage at this stage
✅ A telegram bot who keeps shares of people’s contributions: @banteg has it.
🕔 concept and distribution - in discussion now, almost done.
🕔 pie shares in the dev portion - to be discussed after workload estimated.
🕔 Art itself: ser Klibansky has many concepts, feedback welcome. We are making some rare features within the collection, tbd on the distribution.
1. Smart contract for the NFT: standard contract it seems. The royalty feature seems to be regular opensea function as well. What could you advise?
2. DAO multisig with Gnosis Safe, perhaps add safesnap. Seems easy.
3. Snapshot configurations for voting. Who can do it? Or knows snapshot people?
4. A static webpage to claim and to put some info. Somebody is welcome to help!
7. Storage related questions: IPFS, Arweave... What could you advise?
8. Randomizer which let’s people figure out what they get only upon claim: how did art blocks and hashmasks accomplish it, what could you advise?
9. The claim contract for punks and bayc people, as well as other participants.
11...

That’s it for today. As always, we are mostly Telegram deep sea dwellers, so find us there. Here is the channel with all the relevant links for you to check.
Happy swimming!
I was looking around today at airdrops and realized I was on the list and could claim a nft. Am I way too late for that?
